Altamonte Springs is a city in Seminole County, Florida, located about 11 miles north of Orlando. As of the 2010 census, the population of the city was 41,496. The city proper has a total area of 9.5 square miles.
Altamonte Springs was first settled in the 1870s by Dr. Washington Kilmer who grew the first orange groves in this area. He is credited with giving Altamonte its name which means “high hill” in Spanish. The Altamont Hotel became a big draw to the area. From that and the downturn of the citrus industry, the focus shifted and eventually it became a residential neighborhood.
Altamonte Springs has an array of homes for sale. There’s a home for every families budget. Golf course communities, well-established subdivisions, and new construction homes are available for sale. Altamonte Springs has a wide assortment of shops, restaurants, and larger retailers, including the Altamonte Mall and AMC Theater.
