Longwood is a city in Seminole County, Florida, located about 15 miles north of Orlando.  As of the 2006 census, the population of the city was 13,491.  The city proper has a total area of 5.6 square miles

Longwood was first settled in 1873 by John Neill Searcy and Edward Warren Henck.  Henck became the first postmaster and named the town after a suburb of Boston which he worked on as a young engineer. Heavily centered upon the citrus industry in its early days, Longwood transformed as growers moved south. The emergence of several military facilities and the Kennedy Space Center helped fuel growth and Longwood became a primarily residential neighborhood.  The growth of the University of Central Florida in the 70s and 80s also fueled this. The Longwood Historic District is designated by the National Register of Historic Places.
