Tavares Real Estate

Tavares is a city in Lake County, Florida. As of the 2008 census, the population of the city was approximately 13,746. The city is the county seat of Lake County. The city proper has a total area of 7.5 square miles.

Tavares was founded in 1880 by Alexander St. Clair-Abrams, a newspaper and railroad man. He named it after a Portuguese ancestor and because the word’s meaning – “Center”, which Tavares is commonly referred to as the hub of the county.  St. Clair-Abrams also pushed for Tavares to be the state capitol, which of course never happened.

Tavares has an array of homes for sale. There’s a home for every families budget. Well established subdivisions, farm homes, and new construction homes are available for sale.  Tavares has an array of restaurants and recreational activities. Tavares has several marinas and the Tavares Seaplane Base, which is city-owned and operated, located on Lake Dora.
